The Samsung Galaxy Note 10’s Sound Addition

With the announcement from Samsung due on August 7th regarding their latest incarnation of the Galaxy Note series, anticipation is at it’s highest. There will be a number of new innovations coming with the latest and greatest Note phone, and whilst a lot has been mentioned about it’s display, or the use of the S Pen. We want to talk about sound.

No Ear Hole?

When you look at the images for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, one of the first things you will notice is that there is no notch for an ear piece at the top of the phone. This is really unusual, and may leave you wondering how on earth you are going to hear your called. This is because Samsung have incorporated one of their newest techs into the phone. This is called Sound on Display (SoD). This means that the phone uses the display as a speaker membrane, and the display literally vibrates itself in order to create the sound. This means that maximum space can be taken up with displaying things, whilst leaving the functionality of making and listening to calls alone.

How Does It Work?

This technology has been tested in a few other phones already, and the likes of the the LG G8 phone and the Huawei P30 pro already use this technology. In fact Samsung itself have already trialled the technology with it’s M40 phone, which also has Sound on Display.

This technology employs a pizeoelectric vibration mechanism below the display, which is what causes the sounds to be generated. This technology is touted as the next big innovation in making the displays as near flawless as possible. It is also said that this type of technology stops ‘sound bleed’ which allows others to hear what is being said on the phone. So this is one piece of technology that could really help.

Other Sound Changes

When it comes to the Sound on Display, some people may wonder how this impacts sound quality, as traditionally when it comes to listening to music then a dual speaker system is used where the ear piece speaker is supplemented by an additional speaker to the bottom of the phone.

Well whilst it still isn’t exactly know how Samsung are going to implement this on the new Note 10. It is likely that there could be a second traditional speaker in the phone, which would pair with the Sound on Display technology to give a quality audio experience. What is known however is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will not feature a headphone jack on any of the three models that are expected to be released.

This means that you will have to rely on Bluetooth connectivity in order to listen to the phone. Though this seems to be increasingly the way things are going with mobile phones. Whichever way they implement the sound, it is sure that the phone will be one that sounds amazing, we thoroughly look forward to hearing it.
