A huge question everyone has before buying a new phone is, ‘is the Huawei P30 waterproof?’ and we’re here to answer that question! The Huawei P30 was released in March 2019 alongside the rest of the P30 range. They hit the ground running and there are plenty of reasons to suggest why.

There is more and more demand nowadays for technology to do things it’s never needed to do before. Being resistant to water damage is one of those things. Take a think back over how many times you’ve heard of a phone going down the toilet or a drink being spilt over the top of it. Now imagine the amount of times that’s happened in the entire world. A lot, right? It’s not much of a surprise that tech companies are finding solutions to this.

 

IP Rating

An IP rating is the official rating given to tech devices to confirm their dust and water resistance. The Huawei P30 has an IP53 rating. The IP rating was created by the IEC to create standards for technology all over the worlds. This includes simple things like batteries and radios to your kitchen appliances and you mobile phone. Such a rating makes it much easier for consumers to understand exactly what their devices can do.

With regards to the Huawei P30’s IP53 rating, there are two parts to it. The 5 indicates the effectiveness against dust. In this case, the P30 is not entirely dust proof but will not be damaged if it comes in contact with such particles. The 3 is the level of water resistance. This is what we’ll be paying attention to. 3 means that the phone will not be damaged against water splashing on it. You’ll probably be safe taking pictures of the kids in the pool or the tap splashing up to your phone.

 

Limitations

There are quite a few limitations to any phone however, you only need to know about the limitations of your phone. These are limitations such as water depth, the length of time the phone can be wet, etc…

We would not suggest submerging your phone in any depth of water. The Huawei P30 is bound to be damaged if it is plunged into any liquid. You probably won’t want to take your phone in the pool or ocean to take photos however, you should be alright to take photos from outside the water.

If you’re looking to improve your protection, it would be good to get a heavy-duty case to enclose your phone. Even with a case, you would not be safe to take your phone in water.

 

Is the Huawei P30 waterproof?

The quick answer is no, the Huawei P30 is not waterproof, just splash resistant. No phone is waterproof currently as it’s just impossible. We have no technology to make a phone completely waterproof as we have the need for charging ports, speakers and SIM trays. Perhaps, in the future, we will be able to say that a phone is completely waterproof. Right now, the Huawei P30 is resistant to splashes.

You can be sure that you’re receiving a good level of protection for you suitable needs. We can’t imagine that you would be taking your phone for a swim anyway!

 

Make sure to take care of your Huawei P30 though. We wouldn’t suggest testing it’s limitations as you’ll get stuck paying for a broken phone for 2 years.
