About the Huawei P30 Pro

In March 2019, we saw the release of the Huawei P30 Pro. This device, along with the others in the P30 line, raised industry standards massively. It brought a whole new design, camera set up and more to the game.

On the back of the P30 Pro is a quad lens camera featuring a 40MP wide lens, 8MP telephoto lens, 20MP ultrawide lens and a TOF 3D. Each lens has a different function and allows you to gain different angles. From the wide lens, you can expect high quality photos as this is where you’re going to capture most of your memories from. This lens allows you to also shoot in low light situations. If you’re looking to get more in one frame, you’ll want to turn to the ultrawide lens. This will essentially zoom out and allow more into a single photo.

The last two lenses on the P30 Pro are the ones that allow you to get super artistic. Zoom right in and get a huge amount of detail and colour from the telephoto lens. You’ll be able to capture detail you never even knew was there. With the TOF lens, you’ll be looking to add depth to your photos. Blur the background whilst pulling attention to the subject for an eye catching image.

 

IP Rating Explained

An IP rating is the official certification given to tech devices once they’ve gone through a test to define their resistance to small particles and liquids. This way, you can understand the restrictions and limitations of your smartphone. The IP rating of any device will be in the format ‘IP12’ with each letter and number relating to a different section and giving a different result. With the Huawei P30 Pro, you will experience an IP68 rating. Whilst this suggests the phone is somewhat waterproof, it’s important to understand its limitations.

‘I’ relates to the level of protection against small particles, such as dust, 6 shows the level of resistance against these small particles. In this case, the phone is completely protected against such particles. You won’t need to worry about your phone slowly deteriorating thanks to dust.

Just by connecting the left over pieces, you can figure out that ‘P’ relates to resistance to liquid whilst 8 shows the level of resistance. The Huawei P30 Pro is actually able to withstand damage in up to 2 metres of water for 30 minutes. This is plenty to allow you to capture poolside photos or even take a few underwater photos. Most pools are just over 2 metres at the deepest point. As long as you aren’t deep sea diving with the P30 Pro, we’re sure you’ll survive!

It is important to note that these limitations aren’t just suggestions. If you take your phone below 2 metres depth, it’s likely to crumble under the pressure. You’ll most likely find that over time, speeds massively drop. This is the same as if you take your phone in water for more than 30 minutes. Your phone is likely to experience serious water damage if you over do it.

 

Is the Huawei P30 Pro waterproof?

To quickly answer the question, ‘is the Huawei P30 Pro waterproof?’ no. No smartphone is currently waterproof, only water resistant. We don’t yet have the knowledge to make a phone completely resistant to any depth of water for any length. Whilst it’s probably not too far in the future, it’s just not something we can do or need to do right now. Most smartphones produced in the last few years are at least splash proof, meaning they can resist a drink being spilt or splashes from the pool.
