iPhone Photography Hacks

As more and more people drop digital cameras for smartphone cameras, we’re getting a lot better at taking photos and here are our iPhone photography hacks. From ways to get creative to ways to capture outstanding self portraits, we’ve got it all. Of course, you’re going to need one of our best iPhone deals with a great camera to get started.

Get Creative

So, a lot of the time, it can be hard to find the perfect background to a photo, especially when it’s wet and rainy outside. With the Portrait Mode on modern iPhones, you can kind of cheat a little. If you’ve got a television, computer or any other kind of screen, search up a cool background, ones with lights usually look really cool. Open your camera and head to Portrait Mode and tap the F in the top right corner. Slide the focus bar all the way back to f1.4. Hold your subject in front of your phone and you’ll have some very intriguing photos.

A lot of the time, the ultra wide angle lens doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Not only does it give you larger frames to shoot in but it’s a simple tool to getting more creative photos. A great way to fully enhance use of this tool is in a bit of an unconventional way. When you’re taking photos with this lens, try turning the phone upside down. If you want a regular photo, just with more in the frame, then this probably isn’t one of the iPhone photography hacks for you. This gives a very artistic finish that we promise is going to turn heads.

Reflections are something that promise beauty every single day. Whether they’re through the river, left over puddles of your friends phones. That’s right, we said your friend’s phone. If you want to capture a reflection in a photo to add that extra bit of excitement, just ask your friend if you can borrow their phone quickly. Position their phone so the reflection of your subject shows on their screen but also make sure you can’t see your phone in it either. This is going to create a very icy but extremely attractive photo, especially when it’s full of colour.

Get Clean Photos

We’ve all seen those really cool photos where a person is standing in complete focus but the world is zooming past behind them. It creates such a cool outcome with the blurred figures in the back. It turns out that using these iPhone photography hacks, you can do this so easily. First of all, open your camera and make sure live photos are turned on. Your subject is going to want to stand still for 3 seconds so the camera can catch the perfect shot. After this, swipe up and scroll through effects until you find Long Exposure. This will give you the effect you’re looking for.

Although phones are becoming more resistant to water, we still never advise risking it. After all, your entire life is stored on that one device, what are you going to do if it breaks? Instead, try using some items you already have lying around to shoot in the water. One really cool way to get clean photos is using a glass jar with no lid. Just pop the camera in the jar and float it on the water. When you take your photos, half will be in the water whilst the older half catches the outside of the water.

If you want to take super crisp, high quality selfies, Apple has given you the tool to do so and it’s right in front of you, not being used. Portrait Mode allows for some professional portraits but, have you ever changed the lighting? Along the bottom of the screen, you can see a whole load of extra lighting scenarios. By swapping over to studio light, you’re going to have far more professional images. Every single selfie you take is sure to turn heads when you use this tip. Every highlight will be accentuated whilst shadows are made their best form.

More iPhone Photography Hacks

A few iPhones that are on the market at the moment don’t actually have the ultra wide lenses. This creates a whole new feel with your images and really changes them up. With single lens iPhones, all you need is the Panorama option. Change over to this shooting mode and turn your phone on it’s side. Rather than move from side to side, look from bottom to top. This will create a really attractive image whilst capturing more than just the subject in it.

We’ve all experienced trying to take photos but, our hands, wrists or arms just get in the way. When you’re trying to get more creative and capture the world in a whole new light, this is probably one of the worst things to happen. Little did you know, there’s been a way around this all along. When you plug wired headphones into the iPhone, you can use the volume buttons as the camera shutter. Now, you’ll be able to hold out the phone, even if you don’t have the best grip and still take outstanding photos.

Whilst this next one isn’t really one of our iPhone photography hacks, it is a super cool trick for when you want to take photos of the night sky. Zoom right into the sky, specifically the moon in our case. Tap the screen and reduce the exposure. If you do this slowly, you should be able to see the details in the moon pretty quickly. Makes for a really cool photo of the night sky.
